OVERVIEW

Mabamba Swamp, Kibale Forest, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Mgahinga & Lake Mburo

Uganda is full of stunning and rare wildlife, from tiny colourful birds right through to the largest primates on earth. Even though Uganda is home to the Big Five it is also home to the highest population of mountain gorillas that can only be found in Uganda and 2 other countries in the world.

With lush green jungles and rainforests, Uganda is a wildlife and bird photographers paradise! With over 1,000 bird species living in this spectacular ecosystem of foliage and water.

We’ll be heading to Mabamba swamp, one of the few places you can see the huge Shoebill, indigenous only to East Africa. We’ll also spend two breath-taking days with the gorillas, two unforgettable days with the chimps and one day trekking the cheeky golden monkeys. There will be plenty of game drives to look for big cats including the Tree-Climbing Lions of Ishasha.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 & 2

Day 1 - When you arrive at Entebbe International Airport we'll be there to greet you with a very warm welcome. Together we'll head to our accommodation where we'll have time for a little rest and our first photography workshop to establish how best to help each individual throughout our safari together.

Day 2 - After a hearty breakfast, we’ll head out to Mabamba wetlands for a very exciting boat safari to hopefully photograph the elusive Shoebill and other birdlife.

Jumping in a speed boat from Entebbe, we'll head to the main wetlands. Mabamba is one of the best places to photograph the Shoebill in Uganda as they are often seen on the flat grassy wetlands stalking their prey.

After an exciting boat safari, we'll head back to Entebbe for a rest.

Before dinner there will be an opportunity to take part in our first Editing Workshop.

DAY 3

After an early breakfast, we'll embark on a scenic drive to Kibale National Park. We will arrive out our lodge in time for lunch and a little rest.

We'll then have a photography workshop before heading out for a swamp walk.

Chances of seeing primates are very high and the photographic opportunities are first class!

After dinner, there will be a chance for an Image Review and Q&As

DAY 4

Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale

Today we'll set out for our fascinating jungle walk through Kibale, the best place to spend time with Chimpanzees. Watch them swing from tree to tree, feed and play about right in front of your eyes!

There are also many other residents to photograph in Kibale, like the black & white colobus, red-tailed monkey and the grey-cheeked mangabey. As well as monkeys and apes there is an array of colourful birds to look out for along the way!

Before dinner, there will be an opportunity for a Lightroom session and Image Review.

DAY 5

Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale

We’d like you to have another chance at photographing the amazing Chimpanzees and so we will do a morning chimpanzee trek in Kibale after an early breakfast.

We'll then embark on a very scenic drive west, towards the Queen Elizabeth National Park.

In the evening if you are not too tired you may like to take part in an Image Review and Q&A.

DAY 6

Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to enjoy game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park. So we’ll head out for a morning game drive before enjoying a breath-taking boat safari along the Kazinga Channel.

As well as drawing in a huge variety of birds throughout the year, the Kazinga Channel also has the largest population of hippos in the world and is home to many Nile crocodiles.

After our boat safari, we will enjoy an evening game drive as we head back to camp. Throughout the day we hope to see numerous birds, buffalo, elephants, antelope, zebra and even lions.

DAY 7

Towards the south of Queen Elizabeth National Park is the very special Ishasha plains, which in recent years has become famous for its resident tree-climbing lions.

The Ishasha sector is something not to be missed when in Uganda as it provides unique photographic opportunities!

After a full day in the savannah, we'll check into our lodge, enjoy a relaxing dinner and an Image Review.

DAY 8

In the morning we’ll set out for another chance to photograph the lazy tree-dwellers as they look down over the open land, full of Uganda Kob - an antelope native to Uganda.

There will be plenty of opportunities to also photograph the other magnificent wildlife we spot throughout the day.

After a relaxing day amongst nature, we'll head south to check-in to our accommodation near Bwindi, ready for tomorrow's adventure.

Before dinner, there will be a photography workshop to get us ready for the morning.

DAY 9

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

It is not possible to see Moutain Gorillas anywhere in the world other than in Uganda, Rwnada and DR Congo. You will not find them in any zoo as they can not survive in enclosures. There are only approx. 790 Mountain Gorillas left in the world and over half of them live in Uganda.

It is a great honour and privilege to be amongst the few that can visit them and photograph these majestic Apes at such close quarters.

After our morning briefing, we will head out to find our assigned family. This really is an experience of a lifetime, one you will remember and cherish for the rest of your life!

After lunch and a chance to talk about what an exciting time we just experienced we will travel down south to Kisoro

Evening Lightroom Workshop and Image Review

DAY 10

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

We don’t want you to travel all the way to Uganda to only have one chance to be with the Gorillas. So, this morning we’ll head out again but this time we'll trek in a different area.

After another fantastic experience with the Gorillas we'll return to camp for a well-deserved rest.

Before dinner, we will have time for a Lightroom Workshop and Image Review.

DAY 11

After a hearty breakfast, we'll head a short distance south to Mgahinga to trek Golden Monkeys.

There are only around 5000 of these spectacular monkeys left in the wild and are therefore on the endangered species list, so as you can see, an encounter with these distinctive monkeys is also not to be missed!

Once we’ve completed our trek and had lunch we will take another scenic drive, this time heading northeast to Lake Mburo National Park.

DAY 12

For our last game drive of this safari, we’ll head into Lake Mburo National Park.

It is the only park in Uganda where you can find Impala, Eland and Giraffe in one place. Lake Mburo National Park is the smallest of Uganda’s National Parks making it the perfect place for game viewing. This park is packed full of biodiversity and homes over 350 bird species, Buffalo, Oribi, Waterbuck, Leopard, hippo, Hyena, Topi, Reedbuck and the Burchell Zebra.

We’ll break up the day with a 2-hour boat safari on Lake Mburo where we may see hippo, crocodiles, pelicans, herons and even the fish eagle!

Before dinner, we will have time for a Lightroom Workshop and Image Review.

DAY 13

Before our magnificent safari comes to an end, we would love to take you on a nature walk in Mburo National Park.

We hope to photograph hyenas returning to their dens and hippos coming from the lake as well as many, many colourful birds.

The scenery is breath-taking and it is a lovely way to round up our time together before transferring back to Entebbe International Airport.
